What do you get when you put a prominent Afrikaner , a couple of Jews and a Greek Refugee together in a courtroom
Nelson Mandela saved from the Gallows
Last week I had the pleasure of watching a preview of “Life is Wonderful – Mandela’s Unsung Heroes” – a documentary movie by former high court judge Sir Nick Stadlen at the SA High Commission in London
Through archive footage and interviews with the last surviving prisoners the movie tells the story behind the infamous Rivonia Trial and how a prominent afrikaner; Braam Fischer (son of the judge president of the orange free state) , a couple of Jews: Joel Joffe, and Arthur Chaskalson and a Greek Refugee -George Bizot successfully battled to save Mandela and his co-defendants from being hanged.
I am told it’s going to be broadcast on MNet / DSTV on 1st August – keep an eye out for it and watch / record it as it really is an inspiring story of immense courage and self-sacrifice on the part of a small group of multiracial idealists … and quite pertinent at a time when a select few are calling for violence against white people in South Africa
